Austria postpone cup games as country mourns those killed in terror attack

November 4 – Austria has postponed domestic cup matches that were scheduled to place this week following the terror attack in Vienna. 

On Monday, four people were killed and 22 others wounded in a gun attack in the Austrian capital near a synagogue. A heavily armed man opened fire on people outside cafes and restaurants.

The attack was unprecedented in the Alpine country and led to matches on Tuesday and Wednesday in the ÖFB-Cup to be postponed to observe a period of national mourning.

“The federal government has recommended that state mourning be taken into account and that all events be cancelled in the next three days,” explained ÖFB president Leo Windtner. “We at the ÖFB will of course comply with this request.”

On Tuesday evening, SV Allerheiligen had been due to play SKU Amstetten in the second round with Austria Vienna vs TSV Hartberg and FAC Vienna vs SK Austria Klagenfurt scheduled as round of sixteen fixtures. On Wednesday, SVG Reichenau-Innsbruck vs Blau-Weiß Linz, Sturm Graz vs Wacker Innsbruck and Vienna vs Altach have all been postponed.
