November 11 – The surge of the coronavirus in Denmark has forced the national federation to quarantine nine players and coach Kasper Hjulmand. All will miss Wednesday’s friendly against Scandinavian rivals Sweden, but may be able to rejoin the squad in time for two crucial Nations League fixtures.
Denmark are already without their key English Premier League-based players because of travel restrictions imposed by the UK government over a new coronavirus mutation linked to mink farms in the country.
On Monday, Hoffenheim’s Robert Skov and a member of the back room staff tested positive for Covid-19 which prompted the Danish FA (DBU) to impose the measures to curb the spread of the virus within the squad.
Skov and the physiotherapist were placed in quarantine at home and the players and coaches with whom the pair had close contact were also isolated. Magnus Skofod was sent home as well as he had risk contacts at his club FC Nordsjælland.
Frederik Rønnow, Yussuf Poulsen, Rasmus Falk Jensen, Pione Sisto, Anders Dreyer, Erik Sviatchenko, Alexander Scholz, Jesper Hansen and Martin Braithwaite are the players in quarantine. They will not play feature against Sweden on Wednesday.
However, if they test negative on Thursday, the players will rejoin the squad ahead of Denmark’s Nations League fixtures. The Danish play both Iceland and Belgium.
