Club World Cup draw pitches AFC and Concacaf champions in first round battle

January 21 – The first of this year’s two Club World Cups in Qatar will kick off February 4 with Concacaf champions Tigres UANL Mexico facing the AFC’s Champions League winners Ulsan Hyundai from South Korea.

The tournament would have started February 2 but the withdrawal of Auckland City FC due to the Covid-19 pandemic and related quarantine measures required by the New Zealand authorities, forced FIFA to adapt the competition’s match schedule and stadiums.

The winners of Tigres vs Ulsan winners will progress to play the Copa Libertadores champions on February 7. Conmebol complete that competition January 30 at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro with a final between Brazil’s Palmeiras and Santos.

The other side of the draw will see Al Duhail and Al Ahly battle for the right to play FC Bayern München on February 8.

The final will be at Doha’s Education City Stadium on February 11.
