Munir El Haddadi cleared to switch nationality from Spain to Morocco

February 2 – After years of trying to represent his country of origin, Munir El Haddadi has finally been given the go-ahead by FIFA to play for Morocco following two appeals to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

El Haddadi failed in a bid a bid to switch national allegiance from Spain to Morocco ahead of the last World Cup.

The winger, currently at Sevilla, had played for Spain in 2014 in the final minutes of single match against North Macedonia which in theory disqualified him from representing a second team.

He had attempted to challenge FIFA rules which at the time stopped players swapping countries and had appealed jointly with the Moroccan Football Federation.

Morocco again tried in vain to summon him last November for two friendlies against Senegal and Congo. But now finally they have their man following a recent FIFA rule change that allows players under 21 to change national teams even if they have played up to three competitive games.
