March 10 – LaLiga is using blockchain technologies via its partner Panini in the US to securely enter the online card trading business.
Over seven weeks, a limited edition of 140 cards are being released representing all 20 clubs in LaLiga Santander along with 26 autographed cards from past and current legends – current cards in the market include Cristiano Ronaldo, Ivan Rakitic and Xavi. All cards are single editions.
The 2021 LaLiga Prizm Blockchain cards launched on March 1 on the Panini Direct App. It is the first time that Panini America has incorporated an full football league into the blockchain environment.
Card holders can store and trade their cards via auction through the Panini blockchain. The cards are being sold in a Dutch Auction format with prices dropping incrementally until the card is sold.
LaLiga said in a press release that the Panini Blockchain site will offer additional functionality such as personal galleries and ownership histories for individual cards in the near future.
