Man Utd log in for £47m a year deal with TeamViewer as Chevrolet hit the road

March 19 – Manchester United has signed a new five-year agreement with German computer software giant TeamViewer replacing Chevrolet as the club’s principal shirt sponsor.

The new  five-year deal is said to be worth £235 million and starts with the 2021/2022 season. It is a reduction on the Chevrolet deal that was reckoned to be paying €62 million, but the club reckons it is nevertheless the biggest sponsorship signed during the pandemic.

The departure of Chevrolet leaves the club’s automobile sponsorship category open. The club is also understood to be in discussions with current sponsor AON over new deals for its training kit and Carrington training base.

Richard Arnold, managing director, Manchester United, said: “The ability to connect and collaborate has never been more important to the world and our community of 1.1 billion fans and followers. We are looking forward to working with TeamViewer to bring to life our vision for a partnership built on smarter ways of connecting people and businesses.”

TeamViewer and its virtual meeting technology is a deal that perhaps reflects the current pandemic and post-pandemic times where home working and stadia without fans has become the new reality.

TeamViewer has been installed on over 2.5 billion devices, has nearly 600,000 subscribers, and operates in almost every country globally.

Oliver Steil, TeamViewer chief executive officer, said: “We are very excited about this partnership, as it will significantly expand our brand positioning and it will help us to market our comprehensive solutions portfolio to all customer segments globally…Together as Team United we can bring the fan experience in the legendary Theatre of Dreams to a new level.”

It is something of a soulless vision of a future with no real human interaction that on a social level isn’t as compelling as the £47 million annually TeamViewer is spending on promoting it.
