April 8 – Ajax Amsterdam will offer season ticket holders a full or partial refund for the matches they have missed out on this season, the Dutch club has announced.

Fans can opt for a full refund, but if they forego at least 35% of the refund they will receive a limited edition club jacket.

In a statement Ajax wrote: “Playing an entire season without fans hits Ajax hard, in the core of life but also financially. The message to season ticket holders therefore also explains that there are options to (partially or completely) waive compensation. But Ajax realizes that this crisis is affecting many fans and has therefore drawn up a broad arrangement and is understanding for everyone’s choice.”

This season the Eredivisie has been played behind closed doors due to the Covid-19 crisis. Recently, the Netherlands staged a number of test events with fans, including at the World Cup qualifier  Netherlands vs Latvia, but it is unclear if fans will be allowed to attend any Eredivisie matches before the end of the season.

“Anyone who wants his or her money back will get the full amount of his or her season ticket (s) back,” said Fabian Nagtzaam of fan club SV Ajax. “Just as promised [by the club] at the start of the season.”

In the 2019/2020 season, truncated by the coronavirus pandemic, Ajax banked €12 million from season ticketing. This season, season ticket prices started at €228.
