FIFA bans Chad after government attempts FA takeover

FIFA-headquarters

April 9 – Having banned Pakistan earlier this week for third party interference in the national federation’s affairs, FIFA have also kicked out Chad because of government interference.

The move comes after the minister of youth and sports dissolved the Chad FA in March and tried to appoint its own officials to run the federation.

As soon as that happened the Confederation of African Football disqualified Chad  from the final two rounds of qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Chad do not have any upcoming international fixtures having already been knocked out of 2022 World Cup qualifying but FIFA’s ban is a crushing blow to the country and, more widely, African football’s credibility.

“The Bureau of the FIFA Council or the FIFA Council may lift this suspension at any time before the next Fifa Congress takes place and we will inform you accordingly,” FIFA said after imposing the ban.

Chad’s Football Federation president Moctar Mahamoud Hamid said FIFA’s decision was expected.

“Everyone knows that these sanctions from international football bodies will fall sooner or later and we are there,” he told Reuters.
