Spurs gloss over tweets after Dulux paint themselves into a corner

April 16 – New Tottenham Hotspur sponsor Dulux were left red-faced, having to apologise for a series of social media posts mocking Tottenham after its new commercial partnership with the London club was announced.

On Thursday, Spurs unveiled Dulux had become their official paint supplier, but on Twitter Dulux rapidly painted themselves into a corner mocking Spurs’ lack of recent silverware, responding to a posting a picture of an empty trophy cabinet saying that repainting of all surfaces should be dust free, and suggestions the company’s dog mascot could “do a better job” at centre-back.

The tweets were quickly deleted and the paint company issued an apology. “We’re deeply sorry for the posts from Dulux this morning in response to the announcement of our relationships with Spurs,” said the company. “These do not reflect how proud we are to be the official paint supplier of the club.

“We’re investigating what happened and apologise to all Spurs fans.”

The club responded, tweeting: “”We’ll gloss over it this time.”

Tottenham last won a trophy in 2008 when they triumphed in the League Cup.
