Foden tops Euro transfer value ranking at €190m, followed by Greenwood and Rashford

June 11 – Manchester City starlet Phil Foden tops a ranking of European Big-5 league players by transfer value, coming in at a whopping €190 million.

He is ahead of two other English players who play for Foden’s cross-city rivals at Manchester United. Mason Greenwood (pictured left of Foden) is valued at €178 million and Marcus Rashford at €159 million. Meanwhile French wunderkind – at least in 2018 – Kylian Mbappe has seen his transfer value drop to €118 million. Mbappe has just a year left on his current contract with PSG.

The rankings are issued biannually by the CIES Football Observatory which uses its own algorithm to calculate player transfer valuations.

Outside the Premier League, Dortmund and Norway striker Erling Haaland has thetop estimated with €155 million.

“Only three of the 20 big-5 league footballers with an estimated transfer value of more than €100 million are over 25 years of age:Bruno Fernandes, Timo Werner and Bernardo Silva,” says the CIES report which also highlights Ederson Moraes(€62 million) as having the greatest estimated value for goalkeepers and his teammate at Manchester City Ruben Días (€114 million) toping the table for centre backs.

Seven English players fill the top 21 positions. English club players fill 12 of the top 20 slots. Only four of the top 20 ranked players play for teams that would have been outside the planned European Super League breakway.

“Alphonso Davies(€131 million) from Bayern Munich is at the top for full backs and no other defensive midfielder has an estimated value as high as Barcelona’sFrenkie de Jong(€138 million),” finds the CIES.
