AFC names 22 nations for final round of Asian Cup 2023 qualifying

June 16 – The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has today confirmed 22 teams who in the next round of qualifiers for its blue riband Asian Cup, to be held in China in 2023. Four others will have to play off for the final two places in qualifying.

The preliminary round of Asian Qualifiers that completed last night qualified 12 teams for the next round of Qatar 2022 competition, as well as 13 nations directly through to the China 2023 Asian Cup – Japan, Australia, South Korea, Qatar, Syria, Iran, Iraq, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Oman, Lebanon and China.

There will now be a further 24 teams competing for the final 11 slots in the China 2023 Asian Cup. The AFC has ranked all the teams following the last Asian Qualifying rounds with a draw for groups scheduled for June 24.

While the AFC has confirmed the first 22 teams for the draw (see below), the final two slots will be filled via play-offs between Indonesia, Cambodia, Chinese Taipei and Guam.
