July 16 – The Argentina Football Association (AFA) have sold the naming rights to their top tier league to their crypto fan token partner Socios.com. The one-year deal will see the league renamed the Torneo Socios.com.
The league starts its new season tomorrow (Friday July 16) with Boca Juniors playing away to Club Atlético Unión. It is the first time the league has sold its title sponsorship.
In June Socios.com broke its own records with the launch of the Argentina national team Fan Token, increasing its all-time number of users on the app by 50% and triggering a decision to launch an extra batch of tokens.
The initial plan was to launch 400,000 Fan Tokens at a fixed price of $2 each. The huge demand caused some technical issues but once fixed an additional second batch of Fan Tokens was launched, with the full batch selling out in a stunning 30 seconds of trading.
AFA President Claudio Tapia, said: “We are very happy to kick-off this journey with Socios.com. It is a very important agreement, since it’s the first time the Argentinian league partners with a commercial brand to rename the tournament.
“We’ve been partners of Socios.com for some time now with the Argentinian National Team. This new agreement will strengthen our relationship and have a very positive impact on both parties. Argentinian football must continue to grow, increasing its audience and global visibility. To achieve this growth, it’s important that we partner with global leading brands willing to work shoulder to shoulder with AFA in the same direction.”
The deal comes off the back off Argentina’s Copa America win over Brazil last week. Argentina launched their first poll via their fan token giving fans the choose the slogan for the team in the Copa America.
Fan Tokens are collectible digital assets that are minted on the Chiliz blockchain. Owners have access to voting rights in polls, VIP rewards, exclusive promotions, AR-enabled features, chat forums, games and competitions via the mobile app Socios.com.
The Fan Tokens and $CHZ – the digital currency that powers the Socios.com platform – are available on South America’s biggest crypto exchange Mercado Bitcoin.
Fan Tokens have generated more than $150 million in revenues in 2021 so far.
