Haitian sexual abuse scandal: FIFA bans former referees chief for life

July 26 – Yet another Haitian official has been kicked out by FIFA after being found guilty of sexual abuse.

Former Head of Referees at Haiti’s football federation (FHF), Rosnick Grant (pictured), has been banned for life for abusing his position and fined CHF 100,000.

Back in February Grant, who was also a vice-president of the FHF and a one-time international referee, was suspended for 90 days – three months after former Haiti FA president Yves Jean-Bart was banned for life and fined CHF1 million for his reign of terror.

Now Grant, who was responsible for the appointment of referees in Haiti’s domestic leagues, has gone the same way as Jean-Bart after intimidating young officials by threatening to end their careers if they did not have sex with him.

Women’s Under-20 national team supervisor Nella Joseph was also given a 10-year ban in May as part of FIFA’s investigation after being found guilty of forcing players into having sex with Jean-Bart.

Grant coerced young referees “to prevent the reporting of such sexual abuse”, according to a statement from FIFA’s ethics committee.

“In the case of Mr Grant, his conduct occurred between 2011 and 2021, and was related to sexual harassment and abuse, as well as threats and coercion (to prevent the reporting of such sexual abuse) towards female referees, and taking advantage of his position of authority in Haitian football refereeing in exchange for sexual favours,” it added.
