Solskjaer to stay at Man Utd until 2024

July 27 – Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2024.

The show of confidence in Solskjaer, who was by no means every United fan’s first choice when he took over in 2018 despite being a popular player for the club, follows a second-place finish in the Premier League and reaching the Europa League final where they lost on penalties to Villarreal.

“Ole and his staff have worked tirelessly putting the foundations in place for long-term success on the pitch,” United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward said. “The results of that have become increasingly visible over the past two seasons and we are all looking forward to seeing this exciting team develop further in the years ahead.”

The Norwegian was hired in December 2018 from his native Molde as an interim replacement for the sacked Jose Mourinho, and got the job permanently later that season.

Despite a strong 20-21 campaign, United again ended without silverware stretching back to 2017, their longest drought for the club since the 1980s.

They have already spent big ahead of the new Premier League season and this time there will be no excuses.

“Everyone knows the feeling I have for this club, and I am delighted to have signed this new contract,” said Solskjaer, who made more than 200 appearances for United. “It is an exciting time for Manchester United, we have built a squad with a good balance of youth and experienced players that are hungry for success.”
