AFF calls in Sportradar to police match-fixing threats at 2016 Suzuki Cup

November 17 – The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) has renewed its deal with Sportradar to provide match-fixing detection and prevention services for its AFF Suzuki Cup.

The AFF Suzuki Cup is the region’s flagship tournament and is played every two years. This year the eight-team competition will be jointly hosted by Myanmar and the Philippines, with group stages being played up to November 26, with the final four then playing off for the December 17 final.

Sportradar will monitor over 550 betting operators globall across all 18 matches of the 2016 competition. Sportradar will also lead integrity briefings with referees, team managers and match officials on the integrity measures in place, reporting any information related to match-fixing and the potential consequences of fixing.

Sportradar’s Fraud Detection System will notify the AFF if there are any suspicious betting. Both are working with the local enforcement agencies in an effort to combat match fixing and bribery.

Lt Gen Dato Sri’ Azzuddin Ahmad (Retired), AFF General Secretary, said: “It is our responsibility to ensure that the competition is carried out in the spirit of integrity and honest efforts.”

Sportradar MD Integrity Services Andreas Krannich added: “We have been partnering with the AFF for the past three years and we applaud the federation’s commitment to integrity. Our partnership with AFF marks another strong component of a very joined up and collaborative network across Asia.
