Juve and Porto head to Mexico for inaugural Super Copa Tecate

May 25 – With Europe’s giant clubs preparing for their pre-season invasion of the US for the International Champions Cup (ICC), Mexico is also looking to share in the Euro thirst for North America hosting Champions League finalist Juventus and Porto in the pre-season Super Copa Tecate.

This is the first edition of the Supercopa Tecate tournament, which will have games from July 16-22 in Mexico City and Monterrey. Juve will face CF Monterrey on July 18 at the Estadio BBVA Bancomer followed by Tigres at the Estadio Universitario in Mexico City on July 19.

Juve will then head north for the ICC where they will face Barcelona in New York on July 22, Paris Saint-Germain on July 26 in Miami and Roma in Boston on July 30.

The Supercopa Tecate also involves Porto, Chivas Guadalajara and Cruz Azul. Liga MX side Cruz Azul will open the tournament against Porto in Estadio Azul (Mexico City) on July 17. Chivas host Porto in Estadio Chivas (Guadalajara), also on July 19.

Juve count Mexico as one of their biggest social media territories with the third largest concentration of Bianconeri supporters in the world (according to a Repucom report in 2014), with more that 22 million fans.

Juventus agreed a regional beer sponsorship with Cervezas Cuauhtémoc Moctezuma S.A. DE C.V. – Heineken Mexico, with its Tecate brand becoming the new Juventus Official Regional Beer in 2015.

The agreement granted the brand a set of media rights including use of the Juventus image via digital channels and at events. It was the first regional deal for Juve in Mexico.

Porto has three Mexican internationals – Miguel Layun, Hector Herrera and Jesus ‘Tecatito’ Corona – in their squad.
