TEAM retains global rights to UEFA’s Champions League but US media goes to Relevent

February 8 – TEAM Marketing has retained the rights to the UEFA men’s Champions League for the rights cycle 2024-27, but has ceded media sales rights to Relevent Sports Group in the US.

The full UEFA package of rights also includes the Europa League, the new Europa Conference League, UEFA Super Cup and the UEFA Youth League. As well as sales the agreement covers the provision of account management and associated services.

The award of the rights to TEAM Marketing comes after a tender process that attracted interest from all the major rights agencies. Last year UEFA reported €2.73 billion in revenue from its men’s club competitions – essentially the Champions League and Europa League – making the sales contract easily the most lucrative in world football.

Set up in 1991, TEAM has held an exclusive commercial partnership with UEFA for its club competitions and has been the driving force behind the phenomenal growth of the Champions League. Previously TEAM has only worked on UEFA’s club competitions as part of its agreement with the European governing body – UEFA has representation on TEAM’s board.

While this is the first time TEAM will share some rights with another agency, TEAM will still preside globally over the sale of the big ticket media, sponsorship and licensing rights.

“We are pleased to have seen such high-level interest from renowned parties and are delighted that the agreements reached with TEAM Marketing and Relevent Sports Group will allow further distribution of revenues to clubs across Europe at such a crucial time when financial stability is needed,” said UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin.

“Both companies delivered a compelling vision for European club football and we are convinced that the world’s best club football competition – the UEFA Champions League – and our other men’s club competitions will continue to go from strength to strength. I would also like to thank the European Club Association for the great cooperation during this highly intense bid process.”
