AFC Futsal Asian Cup Kuwait 2022 qualifiers get underway

April 4 – Qualifiers for the Futsal Asian Cup finals to be held in Kuwait in September are set to kick off in the AFC’s west zone and the combined central and southern zone.

Qualifiers are being played as tournament competitions at centralised venues with  Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, hosting seven teams in the west zone, competing for five slots at the 16-team finals.

Teams are divided into two groups with the winners and runners-up of both groups automatically qualifying to the Finals and the third-placed teams playing off for the last slot.

Lebanon will begin their Group A qualifying against Oman, followed by Saudi Arabia against Palestine. Hosts UAE will then face Iraq, who finished fourth in 2018.

As hosts Kuwait are already pre-qualified.

The Kyrgyz Republic is hosting the eight-team Central and South Zone qualifiers starting on April 10 in Bishkek. The winners and runners-up automatically qualify for the Kuwait finals.

Uzbekistan, who finished third in 2018, will open against Nepal in their Group B, followed by Tajikistan against Afghanistan. Iran, 12-time winners of the competition, will start against Maldives in their Group A clash followed by hosts Kyrgyz Republic against Turkmenistan.

A venue and dates for the East Zone qualifiers (six teams, three finals slots) have yet to be announced.

The AFF Futsal Championship 2022, which are already underway in Thailand, will quallify three ASEAN teams to the Kuwait 2022 finals. Thailand and Indonesia currently lead group A while Australia lead Group B ahead of Vietnam.
