Bayern Munich open doors to Ukrainian refugees as they make it 10 out of 10 titles

April 25 – FC Bayern Munich have launched an aid programme for Ukraine that will include housing for disabled Ukrainian refugees, the German club has announced.

The programme will house refugees in cooperation with Munich’s social services department. The club said that it will guarantee the rental costs for an initial period of two years and will benefit about 15 people.

“Now FC Bayern will support people with disabilities from Ukraine with a sustainable care package,” said FC Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer. “We all wish for and are demanding an immediate end to this war, but we in Europe, in Germany, in Munich, will be confronted with the inhumanity of such a war for a long time to come. Sport is aware of its responsibility.”

In addition, a ‘We move together’ action will allow refugees to engage in sports activities on the FC Bayern Campus, with slots reserved on particular days for football, basketball, handball, table tennis and general sporting activities. The club said that supervision will be provided by coaches and FC Bayern staff on a voluntary basis.

“Together with our municipal social services department, we can thus offer people with disabilities a longer-term perspective with us,” said Munich mayor Dieter Reiter. “And the sports programmes we offer also play an important role in that.”

This weekend, Bayern Munich clinched a record tenth consecutive Bundesliga crown after defeating rivals Borussia Dortmund 3-1. Last week, however, the German champions crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of Villarreal.
