September 20 – With the international break about to start and the 2022 FIFA World Cup fast approaching, a number of big name players are still scrambling to get on to their national teams’ final rosters.
One of the notable features in squad selections for the upcoming round of national team fixtures is the number star players have not been selected for their recent national matches.
These players will still be hoping to make the final Qatar rosters, but a number need to regain form. Players still needing to catch the eye of their national team coaches include:
Jadon Sancho
To make the England squad Sancho needs to have a terrific season. Having only contributed six goals since joining Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund, his current form is not good enough to warrant an invitation to the England squad.

After scoring his now legendary goal in Brazil’s 2014 World Cup final – which Germany won for a fourth time – he became a household name. However, the super sub has not been called up for the national team since then.
His injuries and ongoing struggle with a metabolism sickness led to his fall from favour at Bayern Munich, and he could not regain his former form upon his return to Dortmund.
The 30-year-old performed well for the Dutch club PSV Eindhoven and scored his most goals in a season since 2013/14, which helped him make a stunning move back to his homeland with Eintracht Frankfurt.
Last chances
The dream, of course, is to make it to the final World Cup roster. But, realistically, most players know they must provide their national team coaches with a string of good performances to achieve this traditional goal. One game is unlikely to be enough from a player hoping to impress his coach, and so performances throughout a season are much more telling of the player’s in-match capabilities for his team.
