PSG considers stadium options

November 25 – Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly turned down a council offer for them to buy the Parc des Princes stadium and instead are considering a move to the Stade de France.

The 48,000-cpacity venue has been PSG’s home since 1974 but is need of further renovation, despite having had some work done in 2016. Until the stadium is properly reworked the club will struggle to maximise match day revenues.

The club currently generates about €100 million on a match day but wants to move to a bigger venue. The Parc des Princes could be extended with the club estimating that cost at €500 million, though has baulked at the Paris City Council’s asking price which CBS reports is four times higher than the club’s valuation.

“Paris deserves a better stadium. My first option is we don’t move. But the city of Paris is pushing us to move,” PSG CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi told Bloomberg.

The French government is reportedly looking for a buyer for the 80,000 capacity Stade de France. PSG is owned by the Qatari state via its Qatar Sports Investments and would have no problem finding the finance to acquire.

Al-Khelaifi said he had three stadium options but did not say what the third option was.
