NFT-driven Sorare extends Eredivisie deal for three years

January 4 – The Netherlands’ Eredivisie has extended its partnership with fantasy game operator Sorare until 2025.

Sorare – which has deals with LaLiga, the Bundesliga and Serie A – will become the exclusive NFT Fantasy Sports Partner of the Eredivisie.

Sorare game players will now be able to collect, and play with digital cards from Eredivisie on the Sorare game.

With blockchain and in particular cryptocurrency going through a cold winter, the deal indicates there is still life left in NFTs. Sorare combines a free-to-play fantasy game with digital collectibles – underpinned by NFTs to create digital scarcity, and hence value, for each card.

Marc Rondagh , Head of Marketing & Commercial development, of Eredivisie, said: “We were one of the first leagues to join Sorare. Sorare’s fantasy game represents the future of online football fandom, and we’re thrilled to extend our partnership with Sorare and go further in bringing exciting new initiatives to our fans.”

Sorare has more than 3 million users in 185 countries across 280+ partnering sports organisations.

Michael Meltzer, Head of Business Development at Sorare, said: “Eredivisie is one of the world’s most iconic leagues; with unparalleled history, great talents and one of the largest and most passionate fanbases in the sport. We’re beyond excited to expand our partnership with such a league that is just as committed to innovating to bring authentic experiences to their fans as we are.”
