January 6 – England captain Harry Kane has admitted that he will always be haunted by his crucial penalty miss at the World Cup against France but that he is determined to move on and put it behind him.
The Tottenham Hotspur striker had the chance to level six minutes from time but France held on to win 2-1 in the quarter-final in Qatar last month.
Despite being taunted by opposition fans, Kane has scored three league goals since the World Cup, including a double against Crystal Palace on Wednesday, proving his mental strength and resilience.
He told the Evening Standard newspaper that the penalty miss will always stay with him but that he will not let it have a negative impact on the rest of his career.
“After it [the penalty miss] happened, I just wanted to play again as quick as possible and get it out of my head. It’s something you have to deal with,” said Kane.
“I’ll probably remember it for the rest of my life, but that’s part of the game. It was a tough moment for me. It’s never an easy thing to go through, but it’s part of football. It’s not going to affect me as a player or as a person.”
“I had a bit of time away after, just to reflect, and it’s made me even more hungry to come back and be successful. “
