Alves faces sexual harassment allegation after night in Barcelona night club

January 11 – Former Barcelona and Brazil star Daniel Alves is under investigation over the allegation of sexual harassment of a woman at a Spanish nightclub, Catalonia’s Supreme Court has said.

A woman has accused him of sexual harassment after he allegedly put his hand inside her underwear at the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona last month. She reportedly raised the alarm in the club and police arrived on the scene with the aggressor having already left the nightclub.

Alves has denied any wrongdoing. In an interview last week, he said: “I was dancing and having a good time without invading anyone’s space. I don’t know who this lady is…How could I do that to a woman? No.’”

Alves currently plays for UNAM Pumas in Mexico after leaving Barcelona last summer. He also had spells at Sevilla, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Sao Paulo. He is widely considered one of the best full-back of all time, with his trademark of attacking and helping with the build-up play. He has won 43 prizes during his career.

Last month, he became the oldest Brazilian to feature in the World Cup at the age of 39. He played in Brazil’s final group-stage game against Cameroon. Alves and the five-time world champions exited the tournament in the quarter finals following a dramatic penalty shootout defeat to Croatia.
