DFB launches NFT tender for rights to national teams

February 8 – The German FA (DFB) has launched a tender for the rights to create NFTs for the DFB national teams and DFB competitions.

The rights being offered are for: Card Collections, Card Games linked to real-life Data, Card Games not linked to real-life Data, Match Moments and Digital Merchandise.

While the DFB is only now getting into the business of NFTs, the Bundesliga has been in the space for two seasons with Sorare, via its fantasy player card trading game. That partnership began for the 2021/22 season and Bundesliga 1 and for the 2022/23 season added Bundesliga 2.

More than 137,000 Bundesliga collectibles were traded last season on the Sorare platform, who will be favourites to pick up the DFB rights.

The period being licensed is for two years from July 1, 2023 to July 31, 2025 for DFB national teams and for two seasons 2023/24 and 2024/25 for DFB competitions.

The period under will cover the 2024 men’s Euros that will be hosted by Germany.

The first stage of the process is for companies to register their interest by February 13. Rights are expected to be granted by the end of the year.
