Las Vegas to host Nations League finals in June; US, Mexico, and Canada have work to do

March 21 – Las Vegas and the Allegiant Stadium will be the venue for the finals of the 2022/23 Concacaf Nations League in June this year.

This week the final Nations League qualifying rounds take place in the group stage with Mexico, USA, Canada and Costa Rica – three of Concacaf’s four representatives at the Qatar 2022 World Cup – all with work to do if they are going to make it to Vegas.

This will be the second time Las Vegas has hosted a major Concacaf final, having been the venue for the 2021 Gold Cup final which the US won 1-0 in extra time against Mexico.

The final matches will be played as double headers with the semi finals on Thursday June 15, and the third-place play-off and final on Sunday June 18.

Concacaf president Victor Montagliani said: “The City of Las Vegas and Allegiant Stadium will be tremendous hosts of the 2022/23 Concacaf Nations League Finals. We all enjoyed an outstanding Gold Cup Final at the same venue in 2021, and I have no doubt the quality of the teams combined with the world-class facility will draw fans from across our region.”

The 2021 Gold Cup Final at the 61,000-capacity Allegiant Stadium was the fastest sell-out in the tournament’s history.

The US are the reigning Nations League champions, having beaten Mexico 3-2 in extra time in Denver in 2021 with a Christian Pulisic penalty.

To get to the final four again the US must beat El Salvador, Canada must beat Honduras and get at least a point off Curacao, Mexico must beat Jamaica, while Costa Rica must beat Panama and Martinique.

“The Concacaf Nations League has already transformed men’s national team football in our Confederation, providing a consistent calendar of official matches for all 41 of our Member Associations, and allowing their teams to grow and thrive on and off the pitch, and ultimately to strive to reach the next level,” said Montagliani.

The third edition on the CNL, which kicks off in September 2023, has been revamped with an increase in the number of nations in League A from 12 to 16, and the addition of a new quarter final knock out round.

The third and fourth editions will serve as the qualification route for Concacaf national teams to the 2024 CONMEBOL Copa America (six teams) and 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup, respectively.
