April 14 – The sale of Bulgaria’s Pirin Blagoevgrad has fallen through after US player agency CRD Sport pulled out after representatives of the company spent more than a week in Blagoevgrad where they negotiated with the local municipality.
The reason given for the failed deal between the Municipality of Blagoevgrad and CDR Sport was ‘administrative obstacles’.
Pirin is currently owned by the local Municipality and changing the ownership status of the club would take several months. CDR Sport had hoped that all the paperwork could be settled by the end of the season (in May) but in the end the procedure could take quite a bit longer. This has caused investors to end the talks at this stage.
In February, the former owner of the club, Paul Belogur, gave his shares to the Municipality of Blagoevgrad free of charge and stopped paying the club’s bills. Since then, Pirin has been plagued by financial problems and now needs a new investor to be able to continue to play.
The Municipality of Blagoevgrad have said they do not have the necessary money to support the club, although some time ago they allocated additional funds so that the club could pay its debts to the National Revenue Agency (NRA). Players have not received salaries for two months. The club also has debt owed to former players and agents.
