Textor axes Dailly from RWD Molenbeek chair amid accusations of financial impropriety

June 2 – John Textor (pictured left) has removed Thierry Dailly from his role as RWD Molenbeek chairman. Dailly was the driving force behind the resurrection of the club in 2015.

In an explosive letter addressed to fans of the Brussels-based club, the American outlined the reasons for dismissing Dailly, accusing him of misappropriating club funds, creating a toxic workplace and “actions and statements inconsistent with the values which RWDM, as a modern football club in Brussels, considers to be of paramount importance’’.

Textor also criticized the sporting departing, arguing that they do not have a squad ready for next season.

Dailly has responded saying the accusations at his address are “big lies.” He said that “The allegations are false and I will debunk them after consulting my lawyer. I am a shareholder and I want to stay that way. I intend to continue to exercise my mandate on the Board. And I will be present at every RWDM competition next season.”

Dailly retains 20% of the share in RWDM, but Textor will serve as the new chairman of the club. Previously of KV Oostende, Gauthier Ganaye will become the club’s new CEO.

In 2022, days after taking over storied Brazilian club Botafogo, Textor became a co-investor in RWDM as Dailly sought a new lifeline for the struggling club. The American also has Lyon, Botafogo and Crystal Palace in his club ownership portfolio.

Just weeks ago, RWD Molenbeek won promotion to the Pro League after a 21-year absence and so for the first time since 1988 three Brussels-based clubs will feature in the top flight.
