Concacaf unveils draw detail for new club competitions in Caribbean and Central America

June 6 – Concacaf has released details of the draws for its three regional cup competitions to take place August to November this year. The competitions will provide qualifying routes to the expanded Concacaf Champions League in 2024.

The new club competition structure sees the inaugural editions of the Concacaf Caribbean Cup and Concacaf Central American Cup, as well as an expanded edition of the Caribbean Club Shield to be hosted by the Saint Kitts and Nevis Football Association, August 3-13.

The draw for all three competitions will be held this Thursday (June 8) in Miami.
Concacaf Caribbean Cup

The new 10-club tournament starts with a group stage (two groups of five teams), followed by a direct elimination knockout stage.

Eight teams have qualified so far and they will be joined by the winners and runners-up of the Caribbean Cup shield.

Group stages will be played August to early October with the knockout stages through October to early December. The winner will receive a bye to the Concacaf Champions League Round of 16, while the losing finalist and third place club will qualify for the first round of the revamped 27-club Concacaf Champions League.

Dominican Republic (3): Cibao FC, CA Pantoja, and Moca FC
Jamaica (3): Cavalier FC, Dunbeholden FC, and Harbour View FC
Trinidad and Tobago (2): AC Port of Spain and Defence Force FC

2023 Concacaf Caribbean Shield
The fifth edition of the Caribbean Club Shield will be centralised in Saint Kitts and Nevis and will feature 16 clubs from 16 Concacaf Caribbean member associations, which Concacaf said they are working with “towards a long-term vision to professionalise the club game across the region”.
The draw will create four groups of four teams. The winners of each group will qualify for the semi-finals.

Central American Cup draw details

The first edition of the regional cup will see 20 Central American clubs compete, with six qualifying for the expanded 27-club 2024 Champions League.

The four groups of five clubs will play two home and two away games in August with the top two teams in each group qualifying for the knockout stage with each tie being played over two legs between September and early December.
