November 26 – Vasco da Gama have promoted their technical director Felipe to the role of manager for the remainder of the season after the dismissal of Rafael Paiva (pictured).
Felipe will lead the team in the last three matches of the current campaign against Atlético-GO, Atlético Mineiro and Cuiabá. He has previously managed Tigres do Brasil, Confiança, Bangu and Volta Redonda and will manage Vasco on an interim basis as the Rio club seek to appoint a manager for the 2025 season.
Following the 3-1 defeat to Corinthians, the club’s fourth consecutive defeat, Paiva was dismissed. In a statement, club president Pedrinho said: “Just to let you know that Paiva is not staying. I want to publicly thank him for the work he did during this period, which was not his first. Before me, he had another stint, where he also took the team in a difficult situation and delivered comfortably.
“With me, he took the team in a difficult situation, took them to the semi-finals of the Copa do Brasil, and reached 43 points early. But it is a decision that has to be made. No one is happy, but we realized that it has to be made. We realized that it is necessary. Tomorrow there is a press conference to explain the situation until the end of the championship.”
Paiva led Vasco to the last four of the Copa do Brasil and the club remain in contention to clinch a ticket for next year’s Copa Libertadores.
