Premier League transfer spend drops £200m to £1.23bn, after 10-year growth bubble

August 10 – The amount spent in the summer transfer window by English Premier League clubs has fallen for the first time in eight years. Clubs spent £1.23 billion in the window that closed yesterday, a drop of £200 million, but still £180 million up on the net expenditure record of £685 million in summer 2016, according to Deloitte figures.

August 10 – Qatar-owned sports broadcaster beIN SPORTS has renewed its exclusive Premier League broadcast rights deal for a further three years starting from the 2019/20 season. beIN’s rights will cover the Middle East and North Africa.

August 10 – Newly promoted Parma will start the new season on a level footing with the rest of Serie A after a five-point penalty for its role in alleged match-fixing was overturned though a fine of €20,000 was retained.

August 10 – FIFA has rejected an appeal lodged by former El Salvador head coach Ramon Maradiaga against the two-year ban handed down for allegedly failing to report a match-fixing attempt.

World Cup bribe allegations hits Televisa share price as pension fund files complaint

August 10 – Mexican broadcaster Televisa is failing to shake off allegations that it bribed its way to the broadcast rights to the 2018, 2022, 2026 and 2030 World Cups, with an amendment to a March complaint in the NY Federal court being filed this week.
