Kawasaki Frontale beat Al Nassr to set up AFC Champions League final against Al Ahly

May 1 – Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale overcame Saudi Arabia’s star-studded Al Nassr with a 3-2 won at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium to secure a spot in the AFC Champions League Elite final on Saturday against Al Ahly.

It was a stunning display of counter-attack football by Frontale who withstood the attacking brilliance of Al Nassr’s Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane and Jhon Duran.

El Salvador has a long history in the Gold Cup, regularly participating but never advancing past the quarterfinals. As of 2023, they have appeared in at 12 Gold Cups, with their first appearance in 1996.

Panama have established themselves as Central America’s leading nation, a mantle they have wrestled off Costa Rica. In 2023 they lost in the final of the Gold Cup to Mexico and in March they lost in the final of the Nations League, also to Mexico.

Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia participated in the CONCACAF Gold Cup as a guest once before, in 1998, finishing in third place. They are set to participate as a guest team in the 2025 and 2027 tournaments following an invitation in December 2024, shortly after Saudi Arabia was selected to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
