Soldier Field, Chicago

The iconic Soldier Field stadium in Chicago,Illinois, will host the opening match of the 2023 Gold Cup between the USA and Jamaica on Saturday June 24.

The multi-purpose stadium opened in 1924 and was reconstructed in 2003. It has been the home of the Chicago Bears NFL team since 1971 and Chicago Fire FC in the MLS from 1998 to 2005 and since 2020.

With a capacity of 61,500 for American football, it is the smallest stadium in the NFL and the oldest in both the NFL and MLS. For soccer the capacity rises to 63,000.

Soldier Field did not bid for 2026 World Cup hosting due to the restrictions FIFA required within its hosting criteria.

However it did host six games in the 1994 World Cup and four in the 1999 Women’s World Cup.

It has been a regular stop on the Concacaf Gold Cup circuit, hosting in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015.

In 2019 it hosted the final between USA and Mexico in front of 62,493 fans.

Gold Cup 2023 will be the seventh visit of the tournament to Soldier Field, a championship record held alongside the NRG Stadium in Houston
