Czech-ing out: partying players sent home before Moldova Euro 2024 qualifier

November 20 – The Czech Republic have expelled three players from their squad ahead of taking on Moldova in a decisive Euro 2024 qualifier.

Vladimir Coufal (pictured) of West Ham United along with Jakub Brabec and Jan Kuchta were sent home after they broke rules by going out partying and “violating national team rules in a fundamental way” when visiting a nightclub on Saturday night.

Having drawn 1-1 in Poland on Friday, the players were supposed to be recuperating and preparing for tonight’s home qualifier against Moldova, where a win or draw will see the Czechs through to the finals.

However the trio, together with Czech FA executive Tomas Neumann, partied until the early hours according to Czech reports.

A video circulated on social media appeared to show Brabec walking out into a road before being guided back to the pavement

All three players were involved in Friday’s draw with Poland in Warsaw and would likely also have featured against Moldova.

Coufal has made 38 appearances for his country, defender Brabec of Greek club Aris Thessaloniki 40 times and forward Kuchta of Sparta Prague 14 times.
