Berhalter calls up Wright and Aaronson after injuries force de la Torre and Sargent out

March 19 – The USA have been forced to make two last minute additions to their squad for the Nations League final four that kicks off this Thursday at the AT&T stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Coach Gregg Berhalter has called up two more European based players in Coventry City’s Haji Wright and Union Berlin’s Brenden Aaronson.

They replace Celta Vigo’s Luca de la Torre and Norwich’s Josh Sargent who both picked up injuries last weekend.

Wright (pictured) has seven caps for the US but did not play for his country in 2023, but was at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, scoring against the Netherlands. He has been enjoying a return to goalscoring form this season with Coventry, hitting the back of the net 15 goals, including scoring the winner in Saturday’s 3-2 FA Cup semi-final win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Aaronson has 38 caps for the US and has been a solid member of the US squad in recent seasons before initially being dropped from the Nations League squad.

Initially struggling for form in the Bundesliga this season, he has started to show signs that his difficult spell is over at Union Berlin, scoring against Werder Bremen on Saturday.

The US open their campaign against hosts Jamaica in the CNL semifinals on Thursday.
