Haiti enters the Gold Cup as one of the region’s most storied and resilient teams. The nation boasts a proud history, having won the tournament as hosts in 1973 and finishing as runners-up in 1971 and 1977.
In the modern Gold Cup era, Haiti has made nine appearances since 2000, reaching the semi-finals in 2019 where they pushed Mexico to extra time before falling 1-0.
The 2023 Gold Cup saw Les Grenadiers advance to the knockout stage, only to be edged out by Mexico in the quarterfinals. Their overall Gold Cup record stands at 11 wins, 5 draws, and 13 losses, with 36 goals scored and 38 conceded.
With no professional football being played in the country due to the unrest and violence, all of Haiti’s players are based outside the country and all at different clubs.
That limits the opportunity for creating a cohesive playing unit, but where Haiti will find total unity will be in their fierce and uncompromising approach. They will not be intimidated but they will intimidate the faint-hearted.
