The multi-use stadium at St Gallen’s is used mainly for football and has seen an impressive array of important fixtures since its opening in 2008. The stadium is part of a larger complex that includes a shopping centre underneath the arena. On the roof is the largest solar installation.
Its inaugural match on 30 May 2008 featured Switzerland defeating Liechtenstein 3–0 in a friendly attended by about 18,000 fans. Situated south of Lake Constance, St.Gallen is a world-renowned metropolis in eastern Switzerland. With its imposing cathedral and library, the city’s Abbey District has been listed as a UNESCO world heritage site.

During the W Euros 2025 UEFA have named the stadium Arena St Gallen to comply with its naming regulations. The arena has been used for various international competitions, including a high-profile World Cup qualifier against Spain and a stunning 7–0 win over Liechtenstein ahead of UEFA Euro 2016.
The venue has also hosted European competition, notably FC St. Gallen’s Europa League conflict with AEK Athens in September 2020, and was a key site during UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 group stages. Domestically, the stadium has showcased intense Swiss Super League matchups, such as FC St. Gallen’s thrilling comeback to beat Basel 3–1 on 27 February 2021, and a dramatic 6–1 rout of Basel on 14 May 2023. It is the home of FC St. Gallen, the oldest club in Switzerland that was founded on 19 April 1879. Their biggest successes have been winning the Swiss championship twice in 1903/04 and 1999/2000.
