May 21 – Samsung Electronics has renewed its sponsorship agreement with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for a further three years.
The agreement was announced at a ceremony at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
Samsung originally signed a sponsorship agreement with CAF to sponsor the African Nations Cup in 2008.
The multinational electronics and IT corporation has also established a football-dedicated digital hub to keep supporters up to date with breaking news in Africa.
This announcement underlines Samsung’s commitment to African football, and the South Korean electronics partner also has a significant presence in the Asian game.
Samsung also sponsor a number of major football teams, including recently crowned UEFA European Champions League winners Chelsea.
“We are excited to be extending our partnership with CAF and believe that our relationship will lead to more engagement and interaction with African football fans,” said Seokmo Yoon, vice-president of Samsung Africa.
“Football is the most popular sport in Africa.
“Therefore, we are deeply committed to share our consumers’ passion, through sponsoring the prominent African tournament.”
Amr Shaheen, CAF’s marketing and TV director, said: “We are delighted Samsung have decided, once again, to renew their relationship with CAF.
“The current advances could not have been achieved without the support of our partners and we hope that our relationship with Samsung will enable football in our continent to continue to flourish.”
