October 23 – Former English Football Association (FA) chairman Lord Triesman has revealed he received a barrage of antisemitic messages in the aftermath of the John Terry racism case.

Lord Triesman went on record after the verdict as saying he thought the four-match ban handed out to the Chelsea captain for racially abusing Queens Park Rangers’ Anton Ferdinand a year ago was too lenient – but has had to face a hostile reaction for those comments.

“I’ve received more antisemitic abuse in the last two weeks than in the whole of my professional career,” Lord Triesman told the Jewish Chronicle.

“It’s disappointing, but I won’t let it get me down.

“My attitude is that we must never let antisemitism defeat us.

“It’s not just been people who think I’ve been getting at Chelsea, on the contrary, it’s been coming from all over the place.

“It’s not a great sign for where we’re going.”

Lord Triesman went on to say that he is “not planning to report the abuse to any of the authorities”.
