March 10 – FIFA has called for expressions of interest in hosting eights of its competitions including the Women’s World Club and four editions of the FIFA Club World Cup.
The next FIFA Women’s World Cup takes place in Canada next year, with the Canadians also hosting the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup this year. FIFA is looking for interest from hosts for 2019 and, ideally, that host would also take on board the U-20s in 2018. Though FIFA says that it would split the hosting responsibilities “if circumstances require”.
The FIFA Women’s World Cup has grown into the second highest profile of FIFA’s events and it is expected that the Canadian edition in 2015 will break all records for the event. The Women’s World Cup has 24 teams and the 2010 edition in Germany holds the attendance record of 395,295 spectators and had an average global in-home audience per live match of 2.8 million.
FIFA is again packaging the hosting of the Club World Cup into two sets of two years – two hosts, each hosting two years – 2015-2016 and 2017-2018 editions. The events will be scheduled for December as previously. 2015 will be in Morocco for the second time.
Declarations of interest must be made by 30 March 2014 with bidding bidding documents submitted by 25 August 2014. FIFA’s Executive Committee will select hosts in September 2014.
The 16-team FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup is open for bidding for the 2017 finals which will be the ninth edition. Declarations of interest are required by 15 April 2014 with hosting documents submitted by 1 October 2014 and the decision on hosts being made in December 2014.
FIFA has also opened up bidding for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2018 – the next edition of the competition will be held in Costa Rica this year.
The bidding timeline for all the women’s competitions requires declarations of interest by 15 April 2014 and bid documents submitted by 31 October 2014. FIFA’s Executive Committee will decide on hosts at its first meeting in 2015.
