Man Utd top weekly attendance chart as Chelsea dip

April 20 – Man Utd topped the attendance capacity chart for Round 34 of the Premier League, in a week that saw every home team fill their ground to more than 90% of capacity.

Four teams were above 99% capacity, while eight were over 95%. For the first time this season Chelsea dipped to below 99%, but there were still only 586 seats left unfilled at Stamford Bridge.

Out of almost 400,000 seats available across the Premier League, just 10,528 were left empty. An average ground capacity of 97.25% as the league enters its final four game. The season average capacity is 95.63%.

Everton have been increasingly showing signs of fan discontent with 3,460 seats left unfilled for their match against Southampton. Roberto Martinez has been coming under increased criticism from supporters and the game against Saints will have done little to ease that.

The city of Liverpool’s mayor has announced that the city may bid to host the Commonwealth Games. The infrastructure required for the games could provide a boost for Everton’s ambition to move to a bigger and better stadium. The biggest issue for spectators at Goodison Park is that there are too many restricted view seats.

Newcastle United again showed an upturn in fans attending St James Park. Locked in a battle for survival at the bottom of the table, new manager Rafael Benitez has called for an intimidating atmosphere for visiting teams. Something must be working with the club winning against Swansea last weekend and drawing with Champions League semi-finalists last night.
