Liverpool and Sevilla UEFA sanctions after Europa Cup final ‘disturbances’

May 23 – UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Liverpool and Sevilla for  “crowd disturbances” at last week’s Europa League final.

Rival supporters clashed before kick-off at St Jakob-Park in Basel, after some Liverpool fans managed to buy tickets in the non-segregated Sevilla end of the ground.

The charges laid against Liverpool also include letting off of fireworks and for Sevilla the throwing of objects. The case will be dealt with by UEFA’s control, ethics and disciplinary body on July 21.

Liverpool are already facing UEFA disciplinary action following their Europa League ties against  Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund but have not qualified for Europe next season.
