Kick It Out tackles online discrimination with Euro 2016 campaign

June 1- The Kick It Out anti-discrimination body is calling on fans at Euro 2016 to flag up any abuse of players on social media. Dubbed ‘Klick It Out’, the campaign is seeking to raise awareness of online abuse within football.

To tie in with Euro 2016, Kick It Out, alongside Brandwatch, a world leading social intelligence and analytics company, will monitor online discrimination towards players competing in France.

“A common question is ‘would people say that to my face?’,” said Kick It Out director Roisin Woods. “You do wonder if many of the users would approach you face-to-face and be so strong with their views. We have to change the mind-set that ‘it’s OK’ to direct this discrimination online, as if it isn’t real life for some.”

“We want this campaign to illustrate the level of discrimination that still occurs on social media that is a stain on football,” said Woods.

“At Kick It Out we don’t have the power to change laws but we hope our campaign shows how serious the problem is and the devastating impact it can have on people. This problem needs to be addressed now.”
