Uganda cleared to play on as politicians commit to non-interference

July 13 – FIFA says there is no longer any threat of Uganda being banned for government interference following a meeting involving representatives from all parties.

A warning was issued in June when the Federation of Ugandan Football Associations (FUFA) was being asked to sign as a trustee with the government.

“We are happy the government has agreed not to interfere and will work for the development of football in the country,” said Luca Nicola, FIFA’s Manager of Member Associations.

The Uganda national team will be relieved as they can qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Gabon with a win over visiting Comoros in September. They are also into the final round of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup.
