MLS pick All-Stars for Arsenal game but leave out English big guns

July 19 – They may be among the most revered England internationals of recent years  but Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole have not been able to make the MLS  All Stars squad to face Arsenal on July 28.

Every year an MLS side is named to face a Premier League side during the latter’s pre-season tour and Gerrard, Lampard and Cole are three glaring omissions.

None of the trio has managed to set the MLS alight despite being feted on their respective arrivals in the United States amid pledges that they were not there simply for the money.

By contrast Andrea Pirlo, Clint Dempsey, Kaka and veteran ex-Chelsea striker Didier Drogba all make the squad when Arsenal head to San Jose for the league’s showcase game .
