AFC brings in Genius Sports to build best-of-class competition management tool

November 29 – The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has picked sports data specialists Genius Sports to supply a new Competition Management system.

The new software will revamp and add flexibility to the way the AFC manages its tournaments and will be developed so that it is available to all 47 member associations.

Fully integrated with the FIFA Connect Programme, the new AFC system will enable member associations to manage their own professional and amateur leagues as well as tournaments and cup competition in their countries.

Providing member associations with tools to improve and efficiently manage their competitions has been a key objective of the AFC as it raises its competencies across all areas of football administration, management, officiating and playing. The new data management system will include fixture generation, referee and tribunal management, match cards, results recording, league standings, statistics and accreditation. It will also allow data to be carved out for media usuage.

Dato’ Windsor John, AFC General Secretary, said: “We are committed to providing tools to Member Associations to enable them to operate with optimum efficiency. Managing competitions and collecting and distributing data to fans, sponsors and media is crucial for all our Member Associations. We are delighted to be working with Genius Sports who will help plan and manage our competitions in a workflow-driven, modern and paperless way.”

London-based Genius Sports managing director Nick Maywald promised a best of class system for the AFC member associations. “We are honoured to have been selected and trusted by the AFC to develop and deliver our Competition Management system for its Member Associations,” he said.
