Dark nights at the FIFA Museum as staff warned of job cuts

FIFA Museum

January 24 – FIFA’s much-touted but loss-making museum, which opened only a year ago, is on the verge of losing another raft of employees in a move to save costs.

Late last year the Zurich museum parted company with its inaugural managing director Stefan Jost over “contrasting views” on its future development.

Now, according to Swiss reports, the museum’s management has sent an internal letter to staff warning of further redundancies following recommendations of a working group chaired by  joint deputy general secretary Zvonimir Boban as part of a restructuring ordered by Gianni infantino.

The museum, launched by Sepp Blatter towards the end of his tenure, has attracted only half the anticipated 250,000 visitors to its 3,000 square meters of exhibition space spread over three floors which has so far led to an operating deficit of some CHF25 million according to local estimates.

Closure, however, is apparently not an option with the museum still regarded as a significant tourist attraction.
