One league they have won. Man Utd top season Twitter stats beating Arsenal by 500K

May 24 – Manchester United convincingly topped the Twitter growth stats for the 2016-17 season putting on more than 2 million followers over the season. Arsenal also increased their Twitter followers more than 2 million while another two clubs – Chelsea and Manchester City – had increases of more than 1 million over the season.

Man Und easily made the largest impact via social media throughout the season acquiring a total of nearly 2.7M new twitter followers (31.4% growth). In fact this growth is more than the total number of followers for all but the top 5 rated clubs in the EPL.

With 2.08 million new followers throughout the season (26.6% growth)  – Arsenal maintained a lead over EPL’ champions Chelsea who had an increased following of nearly 1.4 million (26.6% growth)

Liverpool had the fourth largest growth with nearly 1.3 million new followers (21.2% growth) with Man City also getting quite close to the 1 M mark with 841K new followers.

As a combined effort – the 2 Manchester clubs had increased followers of 3.5 million and total followers of 15.44 million!

Surprisingly the largest percentage growth over the season was Middlesbrough at 56.5% .

Bottom of the growth table was Burnley only 77,000 new followers over the season – Manchester United on occasion have beaten that figure in a week.

Three clubs were very active in terms of tweets this season with West Ham, Hull and Southampton making over 10,000 tweets each.

Spurs were fourth highest tweeters after a season that gave them a lot to crow about but no silverware. Manchester United, previously reluctant tweeters, found their voice over the season, coming in seventh in the table with over 9,400 tweets.
