Police investigate Belgian/Dutch battle of Bruges fan violence

October 24 – Belgian police are investigating a serious outbreak of fan violence caused by Belgian and Dutch fans which left a policeman with a broken jaw and led to 120 arrests.

Fighting broke out on Sunday at a cafe after Club Bruges’ match against Royal Antwerp.

Fans of Dutch clubs Den Haag, who are allied to Bruges, and Willem II Tilburg, with links to Royal Antwerp, were also involved.

Violence on this scale is relatively rare in Belgian football, although the match between Bruges and Antwerp, their first in 13 years, was regarded as high risk.
