July 29 – Following the suspension of all betting markets on the Swedish second tier following a series of match-fixing alerts, Svenska Spel has said the only solution to the problem is to suspend all betting, indefinitely on the league.

At least 13 games are suspected of being fixed.

Svenska Spel’s Linnéa Hedberg told SBC News: “With so many suspected games that the integrity of a whole league is to be question Svenska Spel does not see any other solution than to stop offering betting upon Division 2 Södra Svealand. We will also continue with all our other activities such as education, cooperation and monitoring in order to fight match fixing.”

Last May, Swedish gambling watchdog Spelinspektionen warned operators of the need to comply to regulation after a number were found to be offering markets on matches with players under the age of 18 on the pitch – Swedish law prohibits the wagering of bets on matches featuring players or athletes who are not yet of a legal gambling age.
